Our mission is to use our amazing network of partners, supporters, staff and sector leading volunteers to empower local communities with the skills and resources necessary to fight blindness on their own. We work alongside eye teams in communities to provide training and guidance to leave a long-term eye care legacy that will restore vision for generations to come.
About
We are an international non-profit that brings people together to fight avoidable blindness. With our network of partners we mentor, train and inspire local teams to fight blindness in their communities. We believe that no one should live a life of unnecessary blindness, simply because of where they were born.
Changing the Way the World Sees

We build our networks on trust and commitment and seek to collaborate with corporate partners, fellow NGOs and local hospitals. We have made a promise to local eye teams to always strive for excellent, sustainable results that will suit their specific needs.
At Orbis, we care deeply for the communities we serve. Whether they’re in Ethiopia, Vietnam or Peru -- our vision is to transform the lives of individuals, families and communities by helping lift them from the grip of blindness.
HOW WE FIGHT BLINDNESS

Our Legacy
With the help of our incredible donors, partners and supporters, we have been a pioneer in the prevention and treatment of blindness for nearly 40 years. Since 1982, we have conducted training programs in 92 countries and trained hundreds of thousands of doctors, nurses, anesthesiologists, biomedical engineers and other medical professionals.
We currently have over 60 long-term projects around the world in countries including India, Bangladesh, Nepal, China, Vietnam, Ethiopia, South Africa, Ghana, Zambia, Cameroon, Peru, Mongolia and Indonesia. Visit our Where We Work section for more information.
With the support of our partners we have trained hundreds of thousands of doctors, nurses, biomedical engineers and eye care workers over the past 32 years. As a result we have positively impacted the lives of millions of men, women and children by conducting over 3 million screenings and examinations in 2018 alone.
