We are an international non-profit that brings people together in the fight against avoidable blindness. Our mission is to transform lives through access to quality eye health. Together with our partners, we train eye care teams, strengthen eye health systems and work on the ground to provide lasting solutions to communities in need.

Our Mission

To transform lives through access to quality eye health.

With the help of our amazing partners and supporters, we have been a pioneer in the prevention and treatment of blindness for over 30 years. Since 1982, we have conducted training programs in over 92 countries, and trained hundreds of thousands of medical professionals.

We have over 40 long-term programs around the world across countries including India, Bangladesh, Nepal, China, Vietnam, Ethiopia, South Africa, Ghana, Zambia, Cameroon, Peru, Mongolia and Indonesia. Visit our Where We Work section for more information.

Our Vision

Orbis envisions a world where no one is needlessly blind or visually impaired.

With the support of our partners, we have trained hundreds of thousands of health care professionals (doctors, nurses, biomedical engineers and eye care workers) over the past 32 years. As a result, we have positively impacted the lives of millions of men, women and children by conducting over 3,532,737 screenings and examinations in 2016 alone.

We work where the need for eye care is greatest and where we can do the most good. In the last 32 years, we have conducted training projects in over 92 countries, over 78 with the Flying Eye Hospital, where we work closely with governments and health ministries.

We strive for excellence in everything we do - from our world leading volunteers to our state-of-the-art Flying Eye Hospital - and only the best training and practices will be passed on.
