Students at Université Laval display paintings after a fundraising event for Orbis

A Night of Art and Impact: Laval OFVLs Host Paint & Sip Fundraiser for Orbis

On a warm May evening, the Laval University chapter of Orbis Future Vision Leaders (OFVL) brought together creativity and cause during a special Paint & Sip fundraising event.

The gathering, organized by Laval’s OFVL resident co-leads, Reinemary Michael and Roxanne Arsenault, and Yosra Er-reguyeg —an OFVL and medical student— offered a unique opportunity to celebrate vision health through art.

Held in a relaxed and intimate setting, the event invited students from across their faculty to explore their artistic side in a vision themed painting event. Participants were able to learn about the global burden of avoidable blindness and the work Orbis is doing through informative postcards that were distributed to participants.

Thanks to the enthusiastic participation of attendees and generous donations, the event raised $300, which will go directly toward supporting Orbis’s sight-saving work around the world.

For Roxanne, Reinemary and Yosra, the event was more than just a fundraiser: "We wanted this night to be meaningful, joyful, and rooted in purpose. It’s about showing that even small gestures, when shared in community, can help restore sight."

Participants also left with more than just their canvases.

“I came here just wanting to paint and unwind,” said one student participant, “but I left with a real admiration for what Orbis is doing. It felt great to be part of something bigger, and to discuss ophthalmology with residents.”

The Laval OFVL team hopes this event inspires more student-led initiatives that connect advocacy, creativity, and action.
