The Orbis Canada Plane Pull for Sight celebrates its 10th anniversary in Toronto on Sunday, May 27, followed by events in Calgary on Saturday, June 16 and Vancouver on Sunday, June 24.

It’s been amazing to see the growth of the event in Toronto and across Canada. We’re grateful for the support we’ve received from our National Sponsor, FedEx, and all the teams that have come out year after year. But this is really just the beginning — we want to continue to grow the events in Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver, and in many more cities in years to come.
Plane Pull for Sight is a fun, unique and family-friendly team-building event in which teams of up to 20 people – friends, family, colleagues, coworkers – compete to pull a 65-ton FedEx 757 cargo plane along a 20ft course – all in support of Orbis Canada.
Teams are required to fundraise a minimum of $2,000 for the opportunity to take part in this ultimate tug-of-war, and the chance to win some great prizes.
But why pull an airplane? The reason is simple. Orbis is an international non-profit organization with its roots firmly embedded within the aviation industry. Plane Pull for Sight is a symbol of our Orbis Flying Eye Hospital, a fully equipped ophthalmic teaching hospital on board an MD-10 aircraft. The Flying Eye hospital travels around the world, staffed by an expert medical team and our dedicated volunteer faculty who work together with our vast network of partners to mentor, train and inspire local teams so they can save sight in their communities.
In 2018, Plane Pull for Sight events will take place in: Toronto on Sunday, May 27; Calgary on Saturday, June 16; and Vancouver on Sunday, June 24. Along with the plane pull itself, there will be a whole host of other fun activities for participants and their families, not to mention one of the highlights of the day – the Kids Pull!
What started as a small event in Toronto, ON ten years ago, is now Orbis Canada’s signature fundraising event. Since 2009, more than 10,000 people have joined us on the tarmac in Toronto, Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver – all pulling together to support Orbis in our fight to end avoidable blindness and restore vision for millions of people around the world.
With the incredible support of our National Sponsor, FedEx, and the countless thousands who have donated generously over the years, Plane Pull for Sight has raised nearly $1 million, and is poised to eclipse that mark in 2018.
